A Reflection in the current state of my life and my career and social media plans and strategies.
Alright folks, buckle up for a different kind of tech talk today. The question on everyone’s mind (well, maybe not everyone, but definitely mine right now) is: what are you most worried about for the future?
For a tech blogger like me, you might expect anxieties about AI taking over the world or the latest cybersecurity threats (those are definitely on the radar, don’t worry). But honestly, what’s keeping me up at night is a lot closer to home – my future in this crazy tech world.
Six months ago, I took a leap of faith and dove headfirst into a Web Development Bootcamp. Visions of coding my way to a dream developer job (complete with a ping-pong table, naturally) danced in my head. Fast forward to today, and let’s just say the job hunt hasn’t exactly been a victory lap.
The rejections sting, the radio silence is deafening, and there’s this nagging feeling in the back of my mind. It’s the fear of unfulfilled potential, a mountain of “what-ifs” building into a mental debt.
Here’s the thing: unlike some folks, I’ve never really had the luxury of job security. I’ve been an odd-jobber for most of my career, even with some accolades under my belt. The stability of a long-term tech position feels like a distant dream, and that adds another layer of anxiety to this whole thing.
On top of that, there’s the social media monster. I, for one, haven’t exactly embraced it. Maybe that’s ironic for a tech blogger, but something about the constant comparison game just rubs me the wrong way. It feels… self-reflective in a way that hinders progress.
But lately, I’ve been wondering – is that a luxury I can afford anymore? Maybe, for the sake of my career, I need to conquer this social media beast. Network, connect with potential employers, showcase my skills in a way that a blog post just can’t.
Ugh, even thinking about it makes me want to crawl back under the covers. But hey, maybe that’s the point. Maybe facing this fear, this weird social media hurdle, is the key to unlocking that dream job.
Because let’s be honest, the longer I wait, the more that “what-if” debt keeps accruing interest.
Here’s the thing: I’m sharing this struggle because maybe, just maybe, someone else out there feels the same way. To all my fellow late-twenty-something dream chasers, let’s keep pushing, keep learning, and find a way to turn this tech whirlwind into something incredible.
Maybe that means embracing the social media side of things. But let’s be honest, social media can feel like a double-edged sword. There’s the negativity, the carefully curated feeds that make everyone else’s life seem perfect (spoiler alert: it’s not), and frankly, the way it can turn us all into a slightly different persona online. It’s no wonder I’ve avoided it for so long.
But here’s the thing too: there’s a whole other side to social media. It’s a powerful tool for connection, for building a professional network, and for showcasing your skills and experience. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to face the music. Not to become someone I’m not, but to embrace the complete package – the good, the bad, and the carefully curated brunch photos.
Because in the end, it’s all part of this crazy tech world we live in. So, let’s learn to navigate it, social media stigma and all. Who knows, maybe not only free kombucha but also some incredible new connections and career opportunities will fill that mountaintop view.
