Lessons from a Year of Struggles, Resilience, and Reinvention in Australia

The Road So Far: A Year of Hurdles and Hard Truths

Changing careers is never easy, but doing it in a new country makes the challenge even greater. It has been over a year since I decided to transition into tech, and I can honestly say that it feels like I’ve been reborn—not in the spiritual sense, but in the “learning to crawl before you can walk” kind of way.

This journey has been filled with hurdles: financial struggles, the frustrating need for “experience” when no one is willing to give you your first chance, and the undeniable power of connections in securing opportunities. But here I am, still standing, still pushing forward, still applying, and still chasing that breakthrough moment.

The Reality of Job Hunting: More Applications Than I Can Count

If I had a dollar for every job application I’ve submitted, I might not need a job at this point. The number has long surpassed 400, and I stopped counting after 200 because, frankly, it became too exhausting and disheartening to keep track. The rejection emails, the ghosting, the “unfortunately, we have decided to proceed with other candidates” messages—they all started blending into one continuous cycle of disappointment.

Despite the frustration, I’ve made small but meaningful progress in expanding my professional social media footprint. It’s incremental, sure, but every connection, every post, and every interaction adds up. I know I need to do more, and I need to be more strategic about how I approach this job search.

Balancing the Dream and Reality

Beyond job hunting, my mind is constantly buzzing with ideas—potential startups, creative projects, side ventures. But the reality is, I have been preoccupied with unfinished tasks, loose ends, and the never-ending battle of managing time effectively. It’s ironic because I’ve always lived by the creed of “leaving no stone unturned,” and yet, I’ve been a hypocrite in that regard, letting things pile up and go unfinished.

However, the tides are shifting. The risks I’ve taken lately have forced me to be more disciplined. If I want to progress, I need to clear my mind and focus on execution rather than just ideation.

The Importance of Mental Clarity

Before I can get to the point of “mental clarity,” I need to declutter my thoughts. Why? Because mental clarity leads to tangible rewards. It means finishing those certificates that boost my credibility, completing those projects that showcase my skills, and even writing blogs like this one as a means of progression. The act of writing forces me to articulate my thoughts, reflect on my journey, and track my progress.

Strategies for Clearing Your Mind and Moving Forward

1. Decluttering the Mental Space

2. Taking Small but Consistent Actions

3. Allowing Room for Creativity and Experimentation

4. Embracing the “Leave No Stone Unturned” Mentality Fully

Final Thoughts: The Journey Continues

Mental clarity isn’t a one-time achievement; it’s a continuous process. As a career changer in Australia, I’ve faced my fair share of struggles, but every setback has taught me something valuable. Whether it’s job hunting, content creation, or startup ideas, I need to keep moving forward with a clear mind and a determined heart.

For anyone else on this path, remember: persistence pays off, but so does taking care of your mental state. Clarity isn’t just about finding answers—it’s about creating space for the right opportunities to come your way.

And with that, I press on. The road is still long, but I’m ready to take the next step.
