I still experience the Blues for rejection as we have put things on hold, but my desire for growth lives on.
Hey tech fam, Rama here! It’s been a whirlwind seven months since I graduated bootcamp back in December 2023, and let me tell you, the learning curve is still a doozy. While I might not be a full-fledged dev yet, the tech industry is where I want to be.
The Post-Bootcamp Grind (Even for Non-Devs):
Anyone else juggling a 40+ hour work week with the constant desire to break into the exciting world of tech? Yeah, feeling that sleep deprivation all too well. But hey, gotta pay the bills and fuel those tech dreams, right?
Balancing Act: A Bootcamp Grad’s Quest
This week, the struggle between adulting and tech dreams hit extra hard. Needed some new work clothes (adulting, ugh!), and let’s be honest, who can resist a little TEMU retail therapy? (guilty pleasure, haha!). But that killer tech convention completely drained my “skill-up” budget. Ouch.
Look, sometimes you gotta live a little, even in the post-bootcamp trenches. But the real challenge is finding that balance – how do I unwind, network with developers, keep learning about the industry, all while holding onto the dream of a tech career? That’s the million-dollar question, folks. Especially after the recent news about that massive tech outage – a little discouraging, but my desire to be a part of this exciting world is stronger than ever!
The Trello Temptation and the All-Too-Real Struggle:
Believe me, I feel you. I’m a massive believer in to-do lists – bullet journaling is practically my second language at this point. This week, I even tried setting up a solo Scrum board on Trello (because, you know, gotta stay organized like a true tech pro!). But let’s be honest, there are days when fatigue from the daily grind or the siren song of procrastination throws my perfectly planned schedule into chaos.
Getting Back in the Thick of It:
The good news is, this week’s a new one! Time to dust off the Trello board (or, you know, maybe a fresh to-do list) and get back to the grind. Here’s the plan for this determined tech hopeful:
- Focus on Action: Landing a tech job is the big push right now. Gotta get my resume and portfolio out there and start networking with people in the industry. Content creation, while a part of the dream (thanks to the whole “personal branding” thing!), can wait for a bit.
- Learning Never Stops: In between applications, I’ll be carving out dedicated time to sharpen my skills and keep up with industry trends. Maybe some online courses or small personal projects to add to the portfolio.
- Schedule with Realistic Expectations: Yes, to-do lists are important, but I also need to be realistic. There will be days when life gets in the way, but that’s okay. Progress over perfection, right?
The Content Creation Dream (On Hold, But Not Forgotten):
Don’t get me wrong, the content creation dream is still alive! It might have to take a backseat for now while I focus on landing that tech job, but the dream is there. Who knows, maybe my experiences will turn into future content – the struggles, the triumphs, and everything in between.
The Takeaway:
This tech journey is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be late nights, budget hiccups, and the occasional retail therapy detour. But hey, that’s part of the ride! The key is to find that balance – fuelling the hustle while remembering why we’re doing this.
