My Journey to Improve and make My career better one word at a time.

Hey tech enthusiasts! It’s your friendly neighbourhood blogger back with a slightly different type of post (pun intended). For the past month, I’ve embarked on a personal challenge: to conquer the keyboard and become a typing ninja!

Now, you might be wondering, why the sudden urge to master the art of rapid keystrokes? The answer is simple: productivity. As a tech blogger, churning out content is a constant battle. The faster I can type, the more ideas I can translate into engaging posts for you all. Plus, let’s be honest, a lightning-fast typing speed is just plain cool!

My weapon of choice in this battle is Keybr.com, a fantastic website that gamifies the typing practice experience. It offers a variety of drills, from letter recognition to full-blown articles, all designed to push your typing skills to the limit. Here’s what I’ve discovered so far after a month of (mostly) daily 10-minute sessions:

The Struggle is Real (Again):

This isn’t actually my first rodeo with Keybr. In the past, I’d used it and saw a lot of progress in my typing speed. But let’s just say life got in the way, and those hard-earned gains slipped a bit.

New Career, New Focus:

Fast forward to today, and I’m starting a new adventure in the tech world! This time around, boosting my typing speed feels paramount to reaching my full potential. I need to be as productive as possible, and hunting and pecking at the keyboard is a productivity killer.

So, I bit the bullet and invested in a one-time purchase on Keybr. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind ads usually. But with the free version, the ads would reset now and then, and worse, they’d wipe out my progress in the middle of a session! Enough was enough. Consider this a worthwhile investment in my future.

Learning the Basics (Again):

One of the key things I learned early on is that building a firm foundation is crucial. Keybr offers drills that focus on individual letters, helping you ingrain their placement on the keyboard. This might seem tedious at first, but trust me, it pays off! Once you have a solid grasp of the keyboard layout, you can move on to the real fun stuff: words!

Words, Glorious Words!

But even for words, there’s a learning curve. I quickly discovered that starting slowly and focusing on accuracy is the key to long-term gains. Keybr allows you to choose short bursts of words to practice on. This way, you can build muscle memory and proper finger placement without getting overwhelmed. Remember, speed will come naturally as your accuracy improves. It’s a marathon, not a sprint!

Progress over Perfection:

The beauty of Keybr (with my sweet ad-free purchase!) is that it tracks my progress, highlighting areas that need work and celebrating milestones. Slowly but surely, I started noticing a difference. My fingers began to find their designated keys with less hesitation, and my WPM started to climb. In fact, I’ve seen a jump from a starting point of around 45 WPM to a more respectable 50 WPM!

Taking it Up a Notch:

Keybr offers a nifty feature: a target typing speed slider. I saw the default setting and scoffed (silently, of course). A measly 40 WPM? That wouldn’t cut it for my blogging ambitions! So, I did what any self-respecting typing enthusiast would do – I cranked it all the way up to 100.0 WPM! It felt audacious, but I figured it would push me to improve faster.

On top of that, I started tweaking the difficulty settings. Out with the repetitive drills focused on 4-5 letter words. I craved complexity! I switched to exercises with longer, more complicated words to really test my mettle.

Early Signs of Victory:

It’s still early days, but the initial frustration is giving way to a sense of accomplishment. I can already feel the difference in my writing workflow. Those creative ideas flow more smoothly, as my fingers can keep up with my brain. The Journey Continues: A Marathon, Not a Sprint.

This is just the beginning of my typing odyssey. I plan to keep at it, utilizing Keybr’s vast resources and pushing myself further. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be zipping across the keyboard at lightning speed, composing blog posts in record time!

More importantly, this experience has become a metaphor for other areas of my life. Like many of you, I struggle with sticking to habits that require consistent effort. Coding comes to mind. While I’m passionate about tech, sometimes those long stretches of focused coding feel daunting. But what I’m learning with Keybr is that improvement is a marathon, not a sprint. Daily practice, even in short bursts, leads to significant progress over time.

Hopefully, I can translate this newfound dedication to consistency into other aspects of my life. After all, who wouldn’t want to be a master coder as well as a keyboard ninja?

Stay tuned for future updates on my typing adventures! In the meantime, if you’re looking to boost your own productivity, I highly recommend checking out Keybr.com. It’s a fun and effective way to conquer the keyboard and unlock your inner typing master!
