What jobs have you had?

The Ventures of someone with a purpose but lacking direction and going to the beat of the moment.

Hey everyone, Rama here, owner of rsoemardja.com! Welcome to my tech blog with a twist. Buckle up, because my journey is less “straight path” and more “scenic detour.”

A World of Odd Jobs:

Let’s just say I’ve worn many hats! My career journey wasn’t a straight line, but a winding path filled with diverse experiences. I’ve whipped up lattes on a coffee van, navigated the organised chaos of a courier service, donned a hardhat and wielded a paintbrush on a construction site, and even learned the art of pick-and-pack in logistics. There were even some industrial cleaning adventures (hello, biggest dust bunnies ever!).

Yearning for More Creativity:

Don’t get me wrong, these jobs provided valuable experiences and connections. I met amazing people and learned a lot about adaptation (and stain removal!). But throughout all these experiences, there was a constant yearning for something more creative. Sure, these jobs kept me busy, but intellectually, they felt like a square peg in a round hole. There was a hands-on aspect, but nothing that truly sparked my creative fire.

Fuelling the Passion for Code:

That yearning is what fuelled my passion for software development. It started innocently enough – playing video games. But those weren’t just mindless escapes; they were intricate worlds, governed by complex logic and code. The more I played, the more I craved the challenge of building something like that myself.

The Not-So-Easy Transition:

The transition to software development wasn’t a walk in the park. The biggest challenge? Time. Juggling a full-time job with self-directed learning and a bootcamp was a marathon, not a sprint. There were nights fueled by cold brew where the code just wouldn’t cooperate, and moments of self-doubt when I questioned if this “unconventional” path was the right one.

Unexpected Skills from Odd Jobs:

One of the surprising things I discovered during this transition is how my “odd jobs” actually equipped me with unexpected skills:

Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead:

This blog chronicles my adventure from scrubbing ducts to writing code. I’ll share my experiences, the resources I find helpful, and hopefully inspire others who might be on a similar off-road trek to tech mastery.

It may not be a traditional route, but with some elbow grease (and maybe a caffeine addiction), I’m determined to land that dream IT or software developer job. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be writing blog posts about the coolest new tech gadgets instead of deciphering industrial cleaning chemicals!

Making Tech Fun: Expanding Technologies with a Playful Twist

But here’s the thing – while I’m diving deep into the world of code, I also want to explore ways to make technology fun and engaging. I’m fascinated by the idea of expanding technologies in a way that’s not just functional, but also interactive and playful.
