My long awaited Career Endeavour begins!
Hey Waddup Lord Internet!
Welcome to my new blog! For those of you who haven’t met me online before, I’ve been calling Auckland, New Zealand home for a long time now. It’s been a great experience, picking up different odd jobs and learning new skills, but lately, a new… no reignited desire has been brewing, the desire to build something more focused and long-term. Something that uses my skills and lets me grow in a specific direction. Well, guess what? I’m finally answering that call and in a big way! For the past year, I’ve been secretly (well, not so secretly anymore!) diving headfirst into the world of software development. I remember all those odd nights that I “claimed” I was catching up on errands? Yeah, I actually spent some of that time learning to code! Programming languages and the potential to create something new with just a few lines of code have always fascinated me.
Now, the dabbling is over. I’m fully committed and ready to take the plunge into a full-fledged software development career! But there’s a twist: I’m not just changing careers, I’m changing countries! That’s right, folks. I’m trading in my odd job toolkit for a laptop and heading to Sydney, Australia, to chase this new dream.
Making the leap, a bold move
Why Sydney? Well, a few reasons. First, it’s a thriving tech hub with a booming software development scene. This means plenty of opportunities to learn and grow in my new field. Second, and just as importantly, I have some amazing friends living there! While they might not be coding wizards themselves (yet!), their unwavering support and encouragement are the fuel that keeps me going. Having a familiar support system in place will be invaluable as I navigate this exciting new chapter.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “From odd jobs to software developer in a new country? That’s a bold move!” Maybe you’re right, but hey, a little boldness is what keeps life interesting, right? Besides, I’ve always thrived on challenges, and this one is definitely a doozy.
The next few months are going to be a whirlwind. I’m brushing up on my coding skills, taking some online courses specific to the area I want to focus on, and (most importantly) learning some basic Aussie slang – fair dinkum, it’ll come in handy when I catch up with my amazing mates! Let’s be honest, navigating an alternative career path is hard enough, but throw in a language barrier (of sorts), and things get interesting!
A Fun and Adventurous Documented Journey
This blog will be my way of documenting the entire journey. You’ll get to see the highs (landing my first dev job!), the lows (the inevitable coding breakdowns – we all have them!), and everything in between.
This might be scary, but it’s also incredibly exciting. Who knows, maybe by the end of this adventure, I’ll be a coding whiz living the dream in Sydney with my biggest cheerleaders by my side. Wish me luck!
P.S. If anyone has any tips or advice for someone transitioning careers, especially in software development in Sydney, hit me up in the comments! I’m all ears (and eyes!).
