From a Blank Slate to 1400+ Connections
As I navigate my career journey in my 30s, I find myself back at square one, still looking for work and trying to build meaningful connections in my field. But what I’ve come to realize is that every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory.
When I first started building my network, I had just a handful of connections. Today, I’ve grown that number to over 1400. It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but through consistent effort, I’ve learned the value of connecting with others. Networking isn’t just about collecting names; it’s about building genuine relationships and learning from others in your field.
One of the most challenging aspects of this journey is the waiting game – employers calling back, the uncertainty of temporary gigs, and the constant hustle. But instead of focusing on the rejections or lack of responses, I’ve learned to celebrate the small wins. Growing my network, getting feedback on my work, and seeing incremental progress have kept me going.
My portfolio is still a work in progress, and I know I have much more to achieve. But for now, I’m focusing on acknowledging my victories, however small, and using them as motivation to keep moving forward.
