From Nostalgia to Necessity – A Free Agent’s Dilemma

I’m back in Sydney. The flight landed, the air felt familiar, but my mind was somewhere else. Just a few hours ago, I was in New Zealand, wrapping up a fun 15-day trip—visiting family, revisiting old spots, eating good food, and reliving memories from a past life. It was the reset I needed, a break from the constant pressure of figuring out what’s next. But now, that break is over.

Before leaving, I cleaned out my old room—dusting off shelves, sorting through belongings, and throwing out what no longer served me. And in a way, that’s exactly what I need to do with my life now. No more distractions, no more holding onto the past. It’s crunch time.

A Free Agent in a System That Demands Stability

The reality is, I’m back with no concrete structure, no corporate job to clock into, no stable income to lean on. A free agent in the most literal sense. And while the idea of freedom is romantic, there’s an undeniable truth: freedom isn’t free.

I need money. Not in a “I want to be rich” kind of way—though financial security would be nice—but in a “this is the price of living in this country” kind of way. Rent, food, utilities, transportation—it all adds up, and Sydney isn’t exactly forgiving when it comes to cost of living.

This isn’t a complaint. It’s just reality.

Some people have it easy: get a job, follow the system, collect a paycheck, and live predictably. But that’s not what I want. I want something of my own. A venture. A project. Something that sustains me without feeling like I’ve sold my time for a fraction of what it’s worth.

The Pressure to Move Forward

15 days of fun. That’s what I got. And I’m grateful for it. But the clock hasn’t stopped ticking. While I was on vacation, the world kept moving, and now it’s my turn to pump the gear to 5th and make it happen.

There’s no more time to hesitate. No time to overthink. I have a small window to create, to build, to establish myself before financial pressure forces my hand. It’s now or never.

The grind starts today.

The Game Plan: From Reflection to Action

Here’s what’s next:

  1. Content Creation & Blogging – Writing has always been my strength, and now, I need to double down. Medium, my website, freelance gigs—anything that builds momentum.
  2. Game Development & Tech Projects – I have ideas. Now, it’s time to ship them. The sooner I get something out, the sooner I can monetize.
  3. Applying for Backup Opportunities – I won’t reject stability if the right opportunity comes, but it has to align with my goals. No more aimless applications.
  4. Personal Growth & Skill Building – Staying stagnant isn’t an option. Learning, iterating, adapting—that’s the only way forward.

This transition is painful, but it’s necessary. I have no safety net, no luxury to wait for the “perfect moment.” The only way out is through.

New Zealand was fun. It was a break. But now, it’s game time. Let’s go.
